Portrait of DavidNever having been adept at formal portraiture, when I focus on doing a portrait, I try to evoke the layers of feelings, their colors, shades and intensities that contemplating the person in question evokes. I can never tell beforehand what is going to happen, or what is going to appear in the composition of the graphic. And although the original linework is very rapid and intuitive, a graphic of this size generally takes a couple of months of intense work to complete--plenty of time to psychically engage with the spirit of the person.
